Welcome to South Shields Indoor Bowling Club website. We are a fully integrated Men's and Ladies club where we play competitive league bowls, and have some great friendly games against touring sides and other clubs. The purpose built 8 rink indoor bowls hall and two superb outdoor bowling greens are located in the centre of South Shields.
The bowls hall and outdoor facilities are well serviced by a large free car park. The club is served by several local bus routes and is within easy walking distance of Chichester Metro Station. Greengauge carpet, eight full size rinks. The hall is bright, warm, clean and an excellent place to bowl. There is also an excellent bar, with lounge/dining room area in the club. The lounge can also be hired for private parties.
The Junior Section held their inaugural Under 21 Australian Pairs competition on Saturday 5th March with teams from Scarborough, Ferryhill, Houghton and Darlington competing.
Ten teams competed in two leagues in a round robin format, the winners and runners up in each league progressing to the semi-finals for the Driver trophy, and third and fourth place progressing to the semi finals for the plate.
After a very competitive and sporting series of matches, the Durkas from South Shields and the TWO Js from Scarborough contested the final. What followed was 45 minutes of high standard bowls which had the spectators on their feet at the end, with the Durkas, James Sneller and Jamie Brass, just edging their opponents 4-3.
Third place went to another Shields team of Emily Maher and Josh Halcrow, with Darlington in fourth place.
The Plate winners were from Ferryhill with another Scarborough team runners up.
It is hoped that this can be made an annual event with invites going out further afield to include teams from Northumberland and Cumbria.
Thanks go out to Steve and Janet Luther for sponsoring the event and also all of the parents and junior committee members for making the day such a success
